I didn’t set out to be one of “those people.” You know, the kind that say they’re gonna do something and then never actually do it? And I certainly didn’t plan on having that particular thing I said I was going to do (and then never did) hang over my head for 4 years or more.
Well, it’s apparent that my friend Jordan is a lot like an elephant. Not as big, just as hairy, and one can only hope his skin is suppler than that of an elephant. Also much like a pachyderm, he doesn’t forget anything. In my last blog, I talked loosely about “being an artist” and that I like to paint. Well, little did I know that Jordan (who lives in upstate New York, by the way) is blog stalking me and would, once again, call me out on what I said I’d do, but still haven’t.
Now listen, I’ve had the best intentions of doing what I promised. I really am not one of those people. I actually started it, a couple of different times, but things got messed up. Life got busy, resources got reallocated, and other times I just got plain lazy. I also moved 1,000 miles away from Jordan, so that made it kinda easy to blow off. One time I started it and didn’t like it, so I threw it out. Another time, I started to do it, and it morphed into something else…and now that one is still in my studio waiting to be finished!
I’m sure you can probably guess by now that I owe Jordan a painting. How it came to be that I owe Jordan a painting is another story of its own, and one that you don’t need to know the details of in order to appreciate where I’m going with this blog. Just suffice it to say that I owe Jordan a painting. A very specific painting.
Jordan appears to be a smart guy and seems to appreciate art. He’s got plenty of it, in various forms, in his living spaces, so one can assume he likes and enjoys art. But his real passion is for a certain comic book hero…and long ago I promised him a painting of his enigmatic idol.
By talking (or writing, as the case may be) about this, I’m making everyone that reads my blog, including Jordan, hold me accountable for producing this painting that I owe. No more excuses. I’ve searched the internet for the perfect artwork as a template for my painting, one that reflects my personal style of art as well as embodies the essence of the character. I’ve asked Jordan how much wall space he has for the painting, so I know what size canvas to buy…which I will do tomorrow. I will then begin diligently working on the painting that I’ve owed to him for over 4 years. A very specific painting of a certain comic book super hero.
Anyone care to guess who the painting is of? And Jordan, you can't answer it...
