I’ve done it. I’ve settled on a new kitchen faucet. I really do research these kinds of things before I make a purchase, so therefore, I bought the following faucet and the matching soap dispener from various online sources, because they were less expensive than list prices locally (I’m an internet shopping guru, by the way)…

As I mentioned in my last blog, I have a sink that has five openings in it…and I was only finding faucet that fit one, two, three and four openings! Hence, I was perplexed until I found out what the additional thing was on the far left…see photo below.

I had no idea what that thing was…and now I know. It’s an air gap. That’s right…an air gap. It allows for water to go to the faucet or dishwasher, but it can’t come back. It’s sometimes used with a water filtration system so that you can get quality drinking water out of your faucet without the fear of it being water you just used to rinse your plates. Because that would be gross.

Now, admittedly, since mine isn’t hooked up to anything under the sink, I’m still not sure whether it goes with the dishwasher or some other filtration system that I don’t know I have. So, while I haven’t entirely solved the mystery, I did find a cover for it that matches the Kohler faucet I just bought! That's what this thing is...

I know, it's fascinating, right?? Now I just need a weekend with rain in the forecast to install it! Oh, wait…isn’t it supposed to rain this weekend? Hmmm…maybe they won’t be delivered in time.
